CHARLOTTE, N.C. - A career high 12 kills by Gabriela Martin led the Florida Atlantic University volleyball team to a sweep (25-19, 25-21, 25-17) on Friday night. The Owls improved to 17-10 overall and 9-6 in Conference USA play with the win.
FAU held Charlotte (8-18, 5-10 C-USA) to a .163 attack percentage and outblocked the 49ers 8-2 on the night. Martin also led the Owls with five block assists in the match.
Raveen Golston posted a match-high 12 digs and was joined in double digits by Kristina Rankovic who recorded 10.
Offensively, Brittney Brown was the only other Owl with double-digit kills, recording. Ivone Martinez and Genesis Viera each had 17 assists to lead FAU. The Owls led 18-14 midway through set two, but Charlotte rallied to tie the score at 19. Down the stretch, Brown had two kills and teamed with Rankovic on a block to help FAU take a two set advantage, 25-21.
FAU held Charlotte to a .050 attack percentage in the third set and led wire to wire in a 25-17 win to clinch the sweep.
The Owls wrap up the regular season Saturday at Louisiana Tech. Match time is set for 7 p.m. eastern and a link to live stats will be available at fausports.com.
