BOCA RATON, Fla. -- The Florida Atlantic University baseball team flexed its power both offensively and defensively in a 23-3 win over the Ontario Blue Jays in an exhibition on Wednesday.
The Owls hit nine extra-base hits and tallied 24 hits in all while the pitching staff scattered four hits over nine innings.
"I just like the energy we had and the way we played," FAU Head Coach John McCormack said. "We executed offensively really well. There are some things we still have to work on, but this is a nice break in the fall because it's the only outside competition we get to play. It's nice for the guys. We treat it kind of like a spring game. It's a treat." Christian Dicks went 3-for-3 with six RBI, a double and a two-run homer while newcomer Shane Swanson went 2-for-4 with four RBI including a three-run home run. Brett Lashley belted a double and drove in three runs and Gunnar Lambert hit a home run and a double to drive in four runs. Austin Langham hit 3-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored as fellow newcomer Jared Shouppe scored twice and hit an RBI double. Sean Labsan belted a three-run homer and senior Nick Jones scored twice on a pair of hits.
On the hill, the Owls struck out 13 batters and crafted a streak of 15 consecutive retired batters. Newomer Marc Stewart picked up the win with a strikeout over his two shutout innings of work. Colyn O'Connell struck out the side in his lone inning while Kyle Marman struck out three and faced the minimum six batters over two frames. Cameron Ragsdale fanned four in a pair of innings as well.
