BIRMINGHAM, Ala. â€" The Florida Atlantic University volleyball team tallied its 11th sweep of the year, as the Owls defeated UAB in straight sets (25-18, 25-13, 25-10) on Friday night.
FAU had eight total blocks on the night, which helped contribute to UAB hitting just .010 as a team. Gabriela Martin led all players with five block assists. Maja Ristic had 10 kills to lead the Owls.
The first set was tied at six when FAU used an 11-5 run to take a 17-11 lead, eventually winning the set 25-18. Ristic, Martin and Brittney Brown all had three kills in the frame. Set number two was tied 8-8 when the Owls ran off eight straight points on their way to a 25-13 win. Ristic had five kills in the set, while Abbi Reid added four.
In the third set, FAU hit .500 (14-2-24) as a unit, while the Blazers recorded a negative hitting percentage as the Owls clinched the match with a 25-10 win. The victory improved FAU's record to 13-6 overall and 5-2 in C-USA play, while UAB fell to 8-16 and 0-9.
The Owls will travel to Middle Tennessee on Sunday to face the Blue Raiders. Match time is set for 2 p.m. eastern. A link to live stats will be available at fausports.com.
