Florida Atlantic Men's Tennis Defeats No. 70 UCF

BOCA RATON, Fla. - Florida Atlantic Men's Tennis (1-1) team traveled to Orlando for a second time in Three days and came away with an impressive win over No. 70 UCF (1-3). The original match scheduled for January 15th was postponed due to weather after doubles play concluded.
This is FAU's first win over a ranked opponent since April 2008 when the Owls defeated then ranked No. 71 Middle Tennessee. This is also the Owls first win against UCF since February of 2011. Head Coach Ricardo Gonzalez attributes the victory to focusing on the details.
"We played a great match today against a very good Central Florida team. We have been working a lot on the little details and today it finally showed," said Gonzalez.
"We had great energy and intensity from the start of the match. We are definitely getting better but we need to continue to work more on the little details in order to have many more victories like this."
FAU started strong winning the doubles point on Thursday with victories in two of the three doubles matchups. FAU freshmen Zandrix Acob teamed with Richard Meade and Kian Mclean teamed with Robert Dubuque both got their first dual match wins during doubles action. When play resumed on Saturday, FAU senior Will Neuner defeated Inaki Espindola 6-2, 6-1 to win the first singles point for FAU. FAU senior Robert Dubuque defeated Tyler Pate 6-3, 6-2 in the number six position before FAU Junior Andrei Morin-Kougoucheff playing in the number two position defeated Jose Sangroniz 6-4, 6-2 to secure the victory for the Owls.
The Owls return to action Sunday January 18, against No. 52 University of Miami in Coral Gables at 12 p.m.
