Maddie Pung Lifts Women's Soccer to Overtime Win

The FAU defense was stifling on the day, allowing Brown (2-2) only two shots, one of which was on goal, and zero corner kicks.
The Owls (4-3-1) took 14 shots in regulation, but were unable to sneak any by Brown's goalkeeper Mallory Yant who made four saves. Claire Emslie was relentless, taking five shots on the day, and freshman Asta Arnadottir notched four of her own.
With six newcomers on the pitch in overtime, a goal kick was headed into Brown territory by freshman Sammy Lujan. There, it was picked up by newcomer Taylor Townsend who split a pair of defenders and setup the goal for Pung. The Oshkosh, Wisc. native stuck her right foot out for a chip shot that went over Yant and just cleared the crossbar to drop into the back of the net.
"It felt so unreal," Pung said. "Taylor did a great job. She hustled and turned the corner and played it right to my foot."
"We enjoyed a lot of possession time and opportunities and didn't really get much to materialize," FAU Head Coach Patrick Baker said. "It was nice to see a lot of newcomers step up when the game was in the balance."
The Owls stay at home to host CSU Bakersfield and Wofford on Friday, Sept. 19 and Sunday, Sept. 21 respectively. For ticket information, visit FAUSports.com or call 1-866-FAU-OWLS.
