The Owls (3-3-1) return home to host Brown this Sunday at 1 p.m. at the FAU Soccer Stadium, Boca Raton Campus.
FAU commanded the match early, taking four shots and three corner kicks in the first 14 minutes of play. Gabriella Sosa and Hildur Hauksdottir each placed shots on goal in the opening frame, but both were snagged by JU goalkeeper Sarah Sierra. FAU's Sydney Drinkwater also made a pair of saves in the first half.
The Owls forced pressure again to open the second half as Taylor Townsend took a hard shot, but it was deflected by Sierra and glanced off the left post.
In the 55th minute, Jacksonville's Sope Akindoju scored on an assist by Kaitlyn Bassett on a breakaway for what proved to be the game-winner.
Hauksdottir responded with another shot just two minutes later, but again Sierra made the save. The Dolphins followed by sending a barrage of shots toward the net, taking three attempts in a span of 40 seconds.
FAU's final shot attempt of the night came in the 85th minute, but Claire Emslie's shot was blocked to keep the Owls at bay.
The Owls took 15 shots and had 11 corner kicks on the night. Drinkwater made five saves to Sierra's six at Southern Oak Stadium.
