BOCA RATON, Fla. - For just the second time this season, the Florida Atlantic University baseball team dropped a game in which it led. The Owls (14-12, 3-8 C-USA) led Southern Miss in both the third and fifth innings, but the Golden Eagles came back late to take a 5-2 victory on Saturday.

FAU struck in the second inning as senior Tyler Rocklein, junior Ricky Santiago collected singles before CJ Chatham hit a line drive through the left side to score Rocklein.

Southern Miss answered in the top of the third with the help of a leadoff double by Connor Barron. The Golden Eagles would load the bases in the fourth, but the FAU defense stranded all three runners.

The Owls would retake the lead in the fifth when freshman Stephen Kerr led off the frame with a single through the left side. After a sacrifice bunt by Mitch Morales, sophomore Brendon Sanger picked up an RBI single, scoring Kerr from second and putting FAU on top 2-1.

The Golden Eagles took control in the sixth inning, posting three runs on three hits and an FAU error to go up 4-2. They would tack on an insurance run in the eighth on a hit, sacrifice bunt and a passed ball.

FAU put runners on base in each of the first seven innings, but left nine runners stranded.

Andrew Archer was charged with the loss in his first decision of the season while Conor Fisk picked up the win for USM.
