BOCA RATON, Fla. - Florida Atlantic University will host its first Division I National Championship with the NCAA Women's College Cup on Friday, Dec. 5 and Sunday, Dec. 7 at FAU Stadium.
The women's soccer national championship field features matchups between Virginia and Texas A&M on Friday at 5 p.m., followed by FSU against Stanford at 7:30 p.m. The winners will square off for the championship on Sunday at 1 p.m.
Patrick Baker, FAU women's soccer head coach, led FSU to its first NCAA tournament victory in his second season at the helm in 2000. The 14th-ranked Seminoles toppled Jacksonville 4-1 in Tallahassee on Nov. 8, 2000 and went on to defeat Florida before being eliminated by No. 5 Clemson in the Sweet 16 on Nov. 17, 2000. Baker's 2003 squad went 4-1 in the tournament to advance all the way to the College Cup before falling 2-0 to Connecticut in the semifinals. At FSU, Baker compiled a record of 9-4-1 in the NCAA tournament.
In conjunction with the College Cup, Baker and FAU will host the Final Four Showcase, a girl's soccer tournament that features the top college soccer prospects and top Division I, II and III coaches in the nation. More than 80 teams from around the country are expected to participate in the three-day tournament that will take place on and around FAU's Boca Raton campus.
