ATHENS, Ga. - A 45-32 rebounding advantage helped the University of Georgia defeat Florida Atlantic University 74-61 on Sunday. The game was closely contested for most of the first half and Jackson Trapp hit a three-pointer to tie the score at 21 with just over eight minutes to go in the half. At that point, the Bulldogs (3-1) began to assert themselves on the glass and built a 12 point lead late in the stanza.
Marquan Botley scored a layup with 30 seconds left before the half, stole the ball and made another layup at the buzzer to send FAU (1-3) into the locker room down just 35-27. The second half fell into a pattern of Georgia threatening to run away with the game, the Owls fighting back to within striking distance and then Georgia reestablishing its cushion.
A pair of Justin Massey free throws cut the lead to 59-49 at the six minute mark, but Georgia went on a 9-1 run to ice the game.
FAU had four players in double figures, led by Botley's 20. He was joined by Trapp (15), Massey (11) and Kelvin Penn (11). Botley also dished out a team-high six assists.
The Owls return home to host Ave Maria on Sunday, Nov. 30 at 2 p.m. Live video of the game will be available on fausports.com.
All FAU games will be carried on ESPN West Palm 106.3, which has an APP for the Smart Phone platform. For tickets, contact the FAU Ticket Office at 1-866-FAU-OWLS or fausports.com.
