Stepanovic and Rankovic both finished with a team high 11 kills, and Stepanovic tied her career high with eight total blocks. After recording a career high 61 assists vs. FIU on Wednesday, Genesis Viera posted 38 versus the 49ers.
Behind Stepanovic's serving, the Owls (17-8, 8-4 C-USA) scored the first four points of the match. Charlotte fought back and tied the frame up at six. Neither team was able to pull away from the other the rest of the way. The 49ers held a 23-22 lead late, but Brittney Brown tied the score with her third kill of the set. Back-to-back Charlotte errors gave FAU the set one win.
Trailing 5-3 early in set number two, the Owls went on a 12-3 charge to take a 15-8 lead. The advantage ballooned to as many as eight, with FAU ultimately winning 25-18 to take a two sets to none lead into the intermission.
After the Owls scored the first three points of the third set, they never surrendered the lead. Each time the 49ers trimmed the deficit to a point, FAU scored to reassert its control of the action. Rankovic closed with a flourish, putting away the final two kills of the match to seal the win.
The Owls will wrap up their homestand on Sunday when they host Rice at 1 p.m. Live stats and live video of the match will be available at fausports.com.
