Florida Atlantic University swimmer Anett Kovacs and football's D'Joun Smith have been chosen as FAU Players of the Week.
Kovacs was FAU's top performer in the team's scrimmage against Princeton on Saturday. The senior claimed three first-place finishes on the day, finishing first in the 200 free with a final time of 1:54.04 and first in the 200 fly with a final time of 2:03.06. She concluded the meet with a first-place finish in the 500 free with a time of 4:56.97. Kovacs currently holds the school record for the 200 fly, finishing in 1:58.39 during the 2011-12 season.
In the Owls' 35-16 loss against No. 23 Marshall on Saturday, senior defensive back Smith had a standout performance. In his first game serving as a kick returner this season, Smith achieved an FAU school record with 202 yards on six kick returns, breaking Anthony Jackson's 168 yards against Marist in 2001 and the team record of 182 yards against Memphis in 2007. He averaged 33.7 yards per return and his longest was 49 yards.
Swimming and diving will host its first official home meet this Thursday, Oct. 30 at 3 p.m. against Texas A&M at the FAU Aquatic Center. FAU football's homecoming game will be this Saturday, Nov. 1 at 7 p.m. in Boca Raton against Conference USA opponent UAB.
