The Florida Atlantic University women's golf team completed day one of the Jacksonville University Classic on Monday.
The seventh annual JU Classic is being played at the Marsh Landing Country Club in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla. The Owls finished the first round in 14th place with a team total of 641.
The course is a par 72 with a total yardage of 5,967. The 14-team field features Jacksonville, Boston University, Charleston Southern, Coastal Carolina, Daytona State, FAU, Maryland, McNeese State, North Florida, Seminole State, Stetson, Troy, USC Upstate and Western Carolina.
Sophomore Heather Netti was FAU's top finisher on the day tied for 51st shooting six-over 78 in round one and seven-over 79 in round two. Junior Emily Peters followed, ending the day in 62nd place after shooting 82 in the first round and 77 in the second.
Christina Langer finished close behind coming in 62nd place after day one carding 82 and 78 in the first and second rounds, respectively. Jacqueline Shelly, who was the individual tournament champion at last year's tournament, completed the day in 75th place with a total score of 167. Rounding out the Owls' competitors is senior Nicole Marino currently in 77th.
The second day of the Jacksonville University Classic will kick off with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct 14.
