Chapel Hill, NC - Florida Atlantic University's baseball team, ranked No. 23 by Baseball America, fell to Towson 7-2, Friday afternoon at the Chapel Hill Regional.
The Owls offense started hot with three hits in the first three innings, but Towson starter Mike Volpe settled in to allow just one hit over the next four innings while the Tigers built a 6-0 lead.
FAU scored twice in the eighth but saw its rally cut short by Towson's bullpen. Jeremy Strawn(5-3), started the game for the Owls and tossed five innings. He gave way to Kevin Alexander who pitched the sixth and allowed an Andrew Parker homer. Michael Sylvestri pitched the seventh and eighth, struck out two and allowed one run. Hugh Adams pitched a scoreless ninth.
Offensively, FAU was led by catcher Levi Meyer, who was 2-for-4 on the day. Tyler Rocklein was 1-for-3 with an RBI while Brendon Sanger drove in the second run. FAU will play at 1:05 p.m. Saturday versus the loser of the North Carolina - Canisius game. The game will air on ESPN3. Audio will be carried on www.fausports.com.
