BOCA RATON, FL - Laura Mann hit a grand slam as part of a six-RBI evening in the Florida Atlantic University softball team's 11-3 win over Eastern Michigan on Monday night.
Mann's blast came in the bottom of the second inning, as she sent a Lindsay Rich offering over the left field fence. The homerun put the Owls (7-13) for the first time in the game. EMU scored three runs in the first inning, before Mann put FAU on the board with an RBI single in the bottom of the inning. A sacrifice fly in the fourth inning accounted for her sixth RBI of the evening.
The Owls ended the game in the bottom of the fifth. Jordan Stovall began the inning with a walk and was replaced by Whitley Herb. Herb stole second, advanced to third on a Melissa Martinez single and then stole home. Kathryn Spack reached on a single to left followed by Sarah Howell moving both runners over on a sacrifice bunt.
An Eagle wild pitch scored Martinez and allowed to Spack to advance to third. Christina Martinez drove in Spack, which sent Stephanie Call to the plate. Call laced a single to left that plated Carnesha Thompson, who reached on an EMU error, to score the game's final run. In the circle, Taylor Fawbush threw a complete game six-hitter for her third win of the season.
