Tampa, FL - The Florida Atlantic University men's tennis team lost its 2013 spring dual match season opener, dropping a 6-1 match at nationally ranked USF on Saturday in Tampa.
"We fought the best we could today. We were playing a really tough and talented team in USF (ranked No. 51 nationally)," said Brandon Stokes, FAU's head men's tennis coach. "Our team is in a good place moving forward. It is exciting to begin the spring season with this group of guys."
The Owls' lone victory came as sophomore Will Neuner scored a straight-set No. 2 singles win over Federico Sabogal, ranked 105th in the preseason Intercollegiate Tennis Association's poll. Neuner won by 6-4, 7-6 (5) scores for his 10th victory of the season and second win against a nationally ranked opponent.
FAU returns to the court on Sunday, January 27 when it battles Florida A&M in Orlando at San Lando Park, starting at 1 p.m.
