Five Softball Newcomers Earn Recognition

BOCA RATON, FL - Five new additions to the Florida Atlantic University softball earned honors for their play.
Carnesha Thompson (Lake Wales, FL (HS)) was named a Class 5A First Team All-State selection by the Miracle Sports Award Committee as well as a Class 5A Second Team All-State member by the Florida Athletic Coaches Association (FACA). Thompson was a Third Team All-State selection as a junior.
Melissa Martinez was named a Class 8A First Team FACA All-State team member and a Second Team honoree by Miracle Sports. Her twin sister, Christina Martinez, was named a Miracle Sports First Team Class 8A All-State member. Both sisters played at Felix Varela High School in Miami.
Additionally, newcomers Kathryn Spack and Shelby Knox also earned recognition. Knox was named a First-Team all-state and All-Panhandle conference member while playing at Northwest Florida State College. Spack made the All-Mid Florida conference first team as a member of the softball team at Daytona State College.
All five players are expected to compete for playing time during the 2013 season.
