Baseball Drops Extra-Inning Game with ULM

Bowling Green, KY - A two-run, walk-off home run by the University of Louisiana-Monroe baseball team's Jeremy Sy led to a 9-7 extra-inning victory over Florida Atlantic University in the second game of the Sun Belt Conference tournament at the Bowling Green Ballpark on Thursday evening.
The back-and-forth contest had FAU forcing extra innings with some drama of its own: a two-out, two-run double by senior infielder Mike Albaladejo tying the game at 6-6. The hit to left-center field brought home junior catcher Mike Spano and sophomore outfielder Geoff Jimenez with the tying runs.
Two innings later, junior outfielder Nathan Pittman hit a double that scored Spano to give the Owls a 7-6 advantage. However, the resilient Warhawks (30-27) answered with a two-out RBI single by Sy to tie the game at 7-7.
ULM's Wil Browning picked up the victory in relief, tossing five innings to improve to 8-3 on the season.
FAU's Ahmed Garcia suffered his first loss of the season, falling to 3-1 after tossing 1.2 innings in relief.
The game marked the second straight extra-inning victory for ULM in the Sun Belt Conference tournament.
Pittman gave the Owls a 1-0 lead on a sacrifice fly to plate junior outfielder Corey Keller in the top of the second inning. Then, the Warhawks hit a pair of home runs in the bottom half of the second inning to take a 3-1 edge.
That lead didn't last long as FAU junior first baseman Mark Nelson hit his seventh home run of the season with a two-run home run to left field in the top of the third inning.
Once again trailing, this time 4-3, Pittman would tie the game on a solo home run to right-center field in the seventh inning. It was his third home run of the season. Offensively, junior third baseman Kyle Newton, Albaladejo, Spano and Pittman each had two hits in the Owls' 11-hit offensive attack.
FAU falls to 32-21 on the season and returns to the diamond on Friday, May 25, at 8 p.m. against the University of South Alabama.
