Baseball Falls 6-4 at Troy to Even Weekend Series

Troy, AL - The Florida Atlantic University baseball team couldn't overcome a pair of solo, two-out home runs in dropping a 6-4 decision to Troy University on Saturday evening at Riddle-Pace Field in Troy, Alabama. The rivals will play the rubber match of the weekend Sun Belt Conference series on Sunday, April 29, at 2 p.m.
The Owls, which has not dropped a league series this spring, fall to 26-16 on the season and remain in first place in the conference with a 14-4 SBC record.
After falling behind 4-1 in the third inning, FAU evened the contest with a three-run fourth inning. Junior third baseman Kyle Newton hit a solo home run over the right field fence to trim the deficit to 4-2. The blast was his sixth of the season and ties him for the team lead.
Later in the inning, freshman shortstop Mitch Morales' sacrifice fly scored junior catcher Mike Spano to narrow the deficit to 4-3. Then, senior infielder Mike Albaladejo lined a run-scoring double inside the third base line to bring home sophomore outfielder Geoff Jimenez with the tying score.
Troy (19-24, 7-13 Sun Belt) regained the lead on a two-out solo home run by Logan Pierce in the bottom of the fifth inning. Tyler Hannah would add an insurance run with a solo blast in the eighth inning.
The Trojans' Thomas Austin picked up the win after tossing 5.1 scoreless innings in relief. The right hander improved to 2-2 on the season.
FAU's sophomore infielder Robert Buckley, senior outfielder Alex Hudak and Albaladejo each had two hits to highlight the team's 10-hit attack.
Troy's Tyler Vaughn and Pierce tallied three hits for the hosts in the victory.
