BOCA RATON, FL - A six run sixth inning for South Alabama was the key factor in the Florida Atlantic softball team's 8-3 loss on Sunday.
South Alabama scored first for the first time in the series, taking a 1-0 lead on a solo homerun by Meghan Collins in the third inning. Taylor Fawbush led off the bottom of the fourth with a single to left field. Jordan Stovall soon followed with an double down the left field line. Alexa Ballard drove in Fawbush to tie the game before Quincy Wilson hit a two-run double to put FAU ahead 3-1.
The sixth inning proved fatal for the Owls' hopes as USA scored six runs on six hits and two FAU errors to take a 7-3 lead. The Jaguars added another run in the seventh inning.
FAU will take some time off before traveling to North Texas to face the Mean Green. The thre game series starts with a doubleheader beginning at 5 p.m. eastern on Friday, April 6. Live stats will be available at www.fausports.com.
