Boca Raton, FL - The Florida Atlantic University women's tennis team dropped a 5-2 home match to Sun Belt Conference opponent University of Denver on Friday afternoon at Patch Reef Park in Boca Raton. The Owls fall to 9-6 on the season.
Senior Justine Humair picked up her second straight victory over a conference team with a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 1 singles. She won in straight sets over FIU on March 21. Freshman Catalina Ene won a hard-fought, three-set victory at No. 4 singles to round out FAU's winners. She dropped the opening set 6-4 but forced the third set with a dominant 6-1 score in the second frame. Ene completed the comeback with a 6-4 score in the deciding third set.
Ene teamed with junior Natasha Phillips to win 8-6 at No. 3 doubles.
"The matches were extremely close today and everybody gave 100-percent effort," said Marcy Hora-Cava, FAU's head women's tennis coach. "We just fell short today. We hope to play them again in the conference tournament."
FAU returns to the court on April 7 to close out the home portion of its schedule against Binghamton, starting at 1 p.m., from Patch Reef Parch, 2000 West Yamato Road in Boca Raton.
