Baseball Sweeps Sun Belt Conference Weekly Awards

Boca Raton, FL - Senior Florida Atlantic University baseball players Alex Hudak and Ryan Garton have swept the Sun Belt Conference's Player and Pitcher of the Week honors after the Owls' impressive season-opening sweep at the University of Alabama.
Hudak led an offensive attack that outscored the Southeastern Conference opponent 24-8, driving in seven runs, scoring an additional five runs and going 6-for-12 at the plate. The outfielder from Mount Dora also connected on two home runs in the series finale on February 19. He had an impressive 1.083 slugging percentage for the weekend.
Meanwhile, Garton set the tone for the series by scattering three hits and striking out seven batters over six quality innings on February 17. The right hander from New Port Richey allowed one run and issued just one walk in his first outing of the season. He kept Alabama in check throughout the early innings as the Owls managed a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning. Then, a four-run sixth inning broke the game open and provided a cushion for Garton's first pitching victory of the season.
FAU stands 3-0 on the season and will have its' home opener on Friday, February 24 at 6:30 p.m. against Manhattan College at the FAU Baseball Stadium, 777 Glades Road, Boca Raton campus. This will be the opening game of a four-game weekend series.
