Boca Raton, FL - The Florida Atlantic University men's tennis team continued its success against in-state competition, defeating Florida Gulf Coast University 5-2 on Saturday at Patch Reef Park in Boca Raton. The win improves FAU to 5-1 on the season, with four victories coming against Florida teams.

The Owls swept all three doubles matches to grab early momentum of the match. FAU's No. 3 tandem of freshmen Robert Dubuque and Sean Bacha cruised to an 8-0 triumph. Later, freshmen Garrett Betsarakis and Boris Bogomolov clinched the match's doubles point with an 8-3 victory at No. 2 doubles. The No. 1 doubles team of junior Taylor Albrecht and freshman Will Neuner came out on top of a tiebreaker 7-3 to win its match.

"Our doubles is starting to come together. The boys are learning and executing," said Brandon Stokes, FAU's head men's tennis coach. "Sean and Robbie got our train rolling. The No. 2 doubles team of Boris and Garrett clinched it, and it was important that our No. 1 doubles team completed the sweep."

FAU took that momentum into singles, winning the first set in four of the six singles matches. Albrecht remained unbeaten in the spring season with a straight-set 6-3, 6-3 triumph to lead the lineup. A few minutes later, freshman Chris Janssen won 6-2, 7-5 at the No. 2 position to give FAU a 3-0 advantage. Then, Neuner secured the match victory at No. 3 singles with a 6-1, 7-6 (9) triumph. All three singles wins came within a five-minute span.

Betsarakis rounded out the winners with a 7-6 (8), 6-4 victory at No. 6 singles. "Taylor continues to lead us," said Stokes. "Chris and Will battled to earn tough victories. This is another good team victory for our team."

FAU returns to the court on Saturday, February 18 against the University of North Florida from Jacksonville. The team will also battle Jacksonville University on Sunday, February 19.
