Boca Raton, FL - The Florida Atlantic University women's basketball team will look for its second straight Sun Belt Conference victory and third straight overall when it hosts Arkansas State University on Saturday, December 1 at noon in the FAU Arena, 777 Glades Road in Boca Raton.
The game opens a FAU athletic triple-header as the football team battles Louisiana at 3 p.m. at the FAU Stadium before the men's basketball team hosts Arkansas State at 8 p.m. in the FAU Arena. Fans that have purchased a football game will receive free admission to the women's basketball game.
FAU stands 4-2 after picking up a 67-56 come-from-behind victory over the University of South Alabama in Wednesday night's conference opener at home. Shooting 63 percent in the second half helped the team rally from a seven-point halftime deficit for the 11-point victory.
Junior guard Kimberly Smith connected on three 3-point field goals to score a season-high 19 points against South Alabama. Classmates Takia Brooks and Briah Blakely rounded out the Owls' double-figure scorers with 12 and 11 points, respectively.
For the season, Brooks leads a balanced scoring attack at 13 points per game. The Miami native also tops the team by averaging 14 assists and 11 steals a game.
Junior forward Chenise Miller, a preseason all-SBC choice, is averaging 12.7 points and 5.2 rebounds per contest. Another junior, guard Latavaia Dempsey, is scoring at an 11-point clip, while senior guard Breana Turner is averaging 10 points a game.
FAU ranks second in the conference in scoring (74 ppg) after totaling 75 or more points in three of the team's four victories. The team is seeking to go 2-0 in the SBC for the second straight season, and remain perfect on its home court after winning the first two home games.
Arkansas State, 1-5, is coming off its first victory of the season, a 60-57 road SBC win over FIU on Thursday, November 29. Jane Morrill leads the Red Wolves with 14 points and seven rebounds per game, while Ashley Olvera is scoring at a nine-point clip.
