Volleyball Picked to Finish 5th in the East

BOCA RATON, FL - The Florida Atlantic University volleyball team was picked to finish 5th in the Sun Belt's Eastern Division in a preseason poll of the league's head coaches. FAU finished 5th in the East last season and will have to overcome the loss of their three best scorers from last season.
Western Kentucky and MTSU both received six first place votes and tied atop the East with 66 points each. They are followed by FIU (48 points), South Alabama (28), FAU (26) and Troy (18). In the West Division, North Texas (65 points, 7 first place votes) was picked to win, with Arkansas State (4 first place votes, 4 first place votes) close behind. Denver (52 points, 1 first place vote) came in third, with Louisiana (34), UALR (29) and ULM rounding out the standings.
The Owls open the 2011 season this weekend at the East Carolina Classic. A tournament central page featuring live stats and box scores has been set up and a link to the page can be found here.
FAU starts its 2011 season when it plays Presbyterian at 4 p.m. on Friday.
