Boca Raton, FL - Junior forward Allison Griffin's goal in the 67^th minute gave the Florida Atlantic University women's soccer team a 2-1 victory over cross-town foe Lynn University in Friday night's season opener at the FAU Soccer Stadium in Boca Raton. The Owls came out of the preseason strong, outshooting the visitors by a 23-9 margin in the match.

FAU closes out the opening weekend of action on Sunday afternoon against in-state rival Stetson University. The match is scheduled to start at 2 p.m.

Griffin took advantage of a scramble in front of the Lynn goal following a shot by sophomore forward Brittney Nash. Fighting Knights' backup goalkeeper Megan Dolan deflected the ball right to Griffin, who converted the opportunity with the game-winning goal into the center of the net.

Sophomore forward Jesse Shugg gave the Owls a 1-0 advantage in the 32^nd minute when she got behind the last line of the Lynn defense following a touch pass set by redshirt junior midfielder Meghan Brown. Shugg pulled Lynn's starting goalkeeper Kelsey Butler away from net before finishing with a strike into the lower left corner of the goal.

However, the lead was short lived as the Boca Raton neighbors squared the match in the 35^th minute on Jackie Hellett's free kick 25 yards away from the FAU goal.

FAU outshot Lynn 13-2 in the second half as the Owls seized control of the match. Overall, sophomore midfielder Marisa Russo paced the offensive attack with five shots. Sophomore midfielder Lindsey Rice and Shugg each added four shots, while Griffin tallied three shots from the bench. Nash recorded three shots and Brown had two shots in the match. Sophomore midfielder Chloe Giordano rounded out the Owls' shooting barrage with one.

Redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Courtney Zwetsch picked up the win after entering the match in the second half. The Tampa native made one save. Junior Ashley Lantes started the match in goal and also made one save.

Hellett highlighted Lynn's offensive attack with two shots, including the lone goal. Alison Ramsey, Lina Forsman, Stef Parrott and Kirstie Schults added one shot.
