Softball Signees Earn Honors

BOCA RATON, FL - Four Florida Atlantic University signees received all-state honors.
Samantha Messer (Sarasota, FL (HS) was named Florida Class 6A Pitcher of the Year by the Miracle Sports Award Committee. Messer also earned First Team All-State honors from the Florida Athletic Coaches Association (FACA). Miracle Sports is comprised of coaches from around the state of Florida. As a senior, Messer went 25-3 and had a 0.49 ERA in the circle.
Alexa Ballard was named Miracle Sports 5A Defensive Player of the Year and made First Team All-State as a utility player. Ballard was also an outstanding offensive player at Osceola High School, hitting .453 as a senior for the Kowgirls. Alison Milam was named to the Class 4A First Team by both Miracle Sports and FACA. Milam led Gulf Breeze to the state semifinals with a 0.52 ERA and threw two no-hitters, including a perfect game on the year.
Laura Mann also made the FACA All-State First Team. Mann helped Palm Beach Gardens High School to its second straight 6A state title, including the game winning hit in the district championship game.
All four players will be on campus in the fall and will be looking to play right away as the Owls will have to replace six starters from a team that advanced to the championship game of the Sun Belt conference tournament.
