BOCA RATON, FL - The Florida Atlantic softball team has a chance to win the Sun Belt regular season title as it heads into the final weekend.
The Owls (31-22, 15-7 Sun Belt) are 1.5 games behind conference leading Louisiana (42-9, 16-5 Sun Belt) as the teams prepare for the final series of the regular season. FAU will have a two game home-and-home series with rival FIU, while Louisiana will travel to Monroe, LA for three games against ULM.
FAU can win the title outright with a sweep of FIU and ULM sweeping Louisiana in their series. A sweep of the Golden Panthers and Louisiana losing twice would also give the Owls the regular season crown. In that scenario, the Owls and Ragin' Cajuns would end up with identical 17-7 conference records, but FAU would win the tiebreaker by virtue of their three game sweep of UL earlier this season.
A regular season title would be the second for the Owls in the Sun Belt and first since the 2007 season.
Friday's game will at FIU starts at 6 p.m. Live stats of the game will be available at www.fausports.com.
