LAFAYETTE, LA - Rose Gressley went 2-for-3 at the plate and threw a complete game four hitter in the Florida Atlantic softball team's 3-1 win over South Alabama at the Sun Belt tournament on Thursday.
The game was delayed by 90 minutes due to the day's earlier games running long. South Alabama (36-16) got on the board first in the top of the second on a RBI double to right center to take a 1-0 lead. The Owls (33-24) tied the game in the bottom of the third, when Cari Curfman drew a bases loaded walk that scored Brittany Walker.
FAU took the lead in the fourth inning when Heather Barnes drove in Kerri Croney on an RBI groundout. Gressley then came up and singled to center, allowing Walker to score for a second time and giving the Owls a 3-1 lead.
Gressley retired the last 10 USA batters in order to preserve the victory. FAU will advance to play either Louisiana-Lafayette, Troy or Western Kentucky at 4:00 eastern on Friday. Live stats of the game will be available at www.fausports.com.
