BOCA RATON, FL - The Florida Atlantic softball team went undefeated in four games last week and that performance has earned two players recognition by the Sun Belt Conference.
Senior Rose Gressley was named Pitcher of the Week, while Heather Barnes earned Player of the Week.
Gressley threw three complete games victories last week, including two over no. 17 Louisiana. She was the winning pitcher in the Owls' 3-2 win over FIU on Wednesday night. Saturday night, Gressley threw a complete game, one-hit shutout in a 1-0 win against the Ragin' Cajuns, at one point retiring 17 straight batters. In Sunday's 6-2 win, UL led off the game with back-to-back hits, but Gressley did not allow another hit for the rest of the game.
Barnes was the hero of the Wednesday's FIU game, hitting a walkoff homerun to give the Owls the 3-2 victory. She had an RBI in FAU's first win over UL on Saturday. Sunday, Barnes went 2-for-3 at the plate and scored a run. For the week, she hit .500 with a homerun, four RBIs, two runs scored and a .786 slugging percentage. Barnes currently has a 15 game hitting streak, which is the longest of any Owl player this season.
It is the second time ever that FAU has swept the Sun Belt weekly awards, Jen Musillo (pitcher) and Mandie Fishback (player) did it on April 30, 2007.
FAU do not play again until traveling to Miami to face rival FIU on May 6 at 6 p.m. Live stats of the game will be available at www.fausports.com.
