Barnes' Homer Gives FAU 3-2 Win

BOCA RATON, FL - Heather Barnes' walkoff homerun gave the Florida Atlantic softball team a 3-2 win over rival FIU on Wednesday night.
The game started with FIU's Jenn Gniadek and the Owls' Rose Gressley matching shutout innings in the circle. The Golden Panthers (25-23, 11-8 Sun Belt) broke through in the fourth inning on an RBI single to take a 1-0 lead.
FIU scored another run in the top of the seventh to take a 2-0 lead, with the Owls (28-23, 12-7) three outs away from their fifth loss in seven games. Ashlyn Parmerter flew out to center to lead off the inning, Hailey Broyles roped a double to right center. Kerri Croney grounded to short for the second out of the inning. Brittany Walker then drew a base on balls, bringing Barnes to the plate.
Barnes was able to lift an 0-2 pitch from Gniadek over the fence in left to capture the victory for FAU. Broyles went 3-for-3 at the plate and Gressley threw a complete game for her 15th win of the season. The Owls host 17th ranked Louisiana this weekend in a three-game series. FAU and UL will play a doubleheader on Saturday night, beginning at 6 p.m. Live stats of both games will be available at www.fausports.com.
