BOCA RATON, FL - The Florida Atlantic softball team completed a three game sweep of North Texas on Sunday, 5-4.
In the fourth inning, with the score tied at 1, Hailey Broyles came up to the plate and singled to drive in Taylor Fawbush. Broyles and Cari Curfman scored on the play after an errant Mean Green throw rolled all the way to the right field wall.
Brittany Walker drove in Broyles on a single to left in the bottom of the sixth to make the score 5-1 in favor of FAU (25-18, 9-3 Sun Belt). That run would prove to be critical as North Texas (17-23, 3-12) scored three times in the top of the seventh and had the bases loaded with two outs before Broyles made a running catch of a Maddelyn Fraley liner to preserve the victory for the Owls.
Rose Gressley struck out nine batter and threw a complete game for her 13th win of the year. The sweep is the first of the season in conference play for FAU, and the Owls still have yet to lose a Sun Belt series this season.
The Owls hit the road for a six game road trip through the state of Alabama. First up is a three game set at South Alabama, beginning on Wednesday, with a 7 p.m. eastern start. Live stats will be available via GameTracker at www.fausports.com.
