BOCA RATON, FL - Florida Atlantic University's men's golf team turned in a three-day 895 team total, on the par 72 LPGA Country Club course, to finish second in the Bethune-Cookman University golf tournament.
Casey Matthews shot an opening day 76 but moved into a tie with teammate Michael Baskovich after shooting 74 and 73 on day two and three. Baskovich also moved up after sitting fifth following the first round.
The team score was rounded out by John Justin Thompson, who was eight over at 224, and tied for fourth. Clint Wilhelm the team leader after day one moved to eighth overall with a 228. Senior Kelly McHugh was 15 over on the tournament at 231 and finished 12th.
FAU competed against host and tournament winner Bethune, Florida A&M, Savannah State, North Carolina Central, Maryland Eastern Shore, and Hampton this weekend. The Owls will travel to USF next weekend and will compete in the St. John's Tournament the following weekend before host a tournament of their own tournament at Gleneagles March 25-27.
