MIAMI, FL - A career high 25 points by April Goins was not enough to help the Florida Atlantic women's basketball team overcome 12 three-pointers by FIU and the Owls fell to the Golden Panthers 100-64 on Saturday.
The score was tied at 10 just over five minutes into the game when FIU scored 17 unanswered points to take a 27-10 lead. The Owls (6-19, 3-11 Sun Belt) responded with a modest run of their own, but the Golden Panthers then had yet another surge to push the lead to 26 at the half, 51-26.
The Owls fought valiantly but were unable to pull back within serious contention. Goins' 25 points led all scorers. Vontrice Dennis (12) and Lyrell Barfield (10) also scored double figures for the Owls in the game.
FAU returns home on Wednesday night to host Troy on Senior Night. The game starts at 7 p.m. and live audio will be available at www.fausports.com.
