BOCA RATON, FL - The Florida Atlantic University volleyball team lost to Western Kentucky in straight sets (25-11, 25-21, 25-18) on Saturday.
The offensive struggles that the Owls (3-13, 0-4 Sun Belt) had early in the season returned on Saturday, as the team had eight attack errors in the first set, compared to just three kills. WKU (17-1, 4-0) scored 13 unanswered points in the set and outhit FAU .280 to -.238.
The difficulties that the Owls had in the first set appeared to carry over to the second set, as FAU fell behind 4-0 early. Three Darija Sataric kills helped the Owls eventually pull even at 13. The set was tied at 20, but a Hilltopper serving run helped them take the next four points. Georgia Robinson staved off the first set point, but a WKU kill ended the set and put the Owls down two sets to none.
At the start of the third set, neither team could establish firm control and the set was tied at seven. From that point, WKU went on an 11-4 run, which propelled them to a 25-18 win.
FAU wraps up its three match homestand on Friday when it faces rival FIU at 6:30 p.m.
