BOCA RATON, FL - An 18-0 run in the second half helped the Florida Atlantic men's basketball team to its first ever 4-0 start in Sun Belt play on Saturday.
The run began at the 10:12 mark of the second half, with FAU (11-6, 4-0) trailing 41-34. Raymond Taylor had a hand in the first eight points of the run, scoring on a layin and nailing a three-pointer, then getting a steal and finding Brett Royster on a layin that led to a three-point play. The Owls did not allow a basket for more than five minutes.
Arkansas State (7-10, 2-2) responded with a run of its own. The Red Wolves trailed by two and had the ball with 33 seconds left after Taylor missed a free throw, but Greg Gantt came up with the steal and found Taylor for a layin that sealed the win.
Kore White led the Owls with 12 points and eight rebounds on the night. FAU is 4-0 in conference play since the 1996-97 season, when it played in the Trans-Atlantic Athletic Conference (now the Atlantic Sun).
The Owls return to the court on Tuesday night, when they play Manhattan in a game originally scheduled for December 30. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. Live audio of the game will be available on www.fausports.com.
