BOCA RATON, FL - The Florida Atlantic men's basketball team matched last season's best winning streak with a 57-50 win over Manhattan on Tuesday night. Brett Royster also blocked four shots to become the Sun Belt's all-time leading shot blocker.
The Owls (12-6) outshot Manhattan (2-14) 43 percent to 30 percent in the first half, but the Jaspers were with two at the break, thanks in part to 18 offensive rebounds. FAU scored the first eight points of the second half to stretch the lead to double-digits at 36-26.
An Alex Tucker three-pointer gave the Owls their biggest lead of the night, 45-31, with just under 13 minutes left. Manhattan cut the lead to four with 2:18 remaining, but Greg Gantt scored off of a steal to help seal the win.
The win is the fourth in a row for the Owls, matching last season's best winning streak. Gantt scored a game-high 17 points, Kore White and Brett Royster tied for the team lead with eight rebounds each. Royster now stands at 269 career blocks, after passing Alan Ogg of UAB.
The Owls resume their Sun Belt conference schedule on Thursday when they face Middle Tennessee in Murfreesboro, TN. Tip-off is scheduled for 8 p.m. eastern and live audio will be available at www.fausports.com.
