BOCA RATON, FL - The 2011 season has yet to begin however the preseason accolades for the FAU Baseball team have already started to pile up.
A week after receiving a ranking of 36 in the Collegiate Baseball Preseason Poll, the Owls upped the ante by six spots and were given the No. 30 ranking in the recently released College Baseball Lineup preseason poll.
Also stocking up on the preseason awards is OF/RHP Andy Mee. The senior continued to pad his resume and earned another All-American honor from College Baseball Lineup and was named to College Baseball Daily's list of the Top 100 collegiate baseball players in the country.
Mee hit a team-best .378 last season while not committing an error in the outfield. The Palm Beach Gardens native also led the team and the Sun Belt with 11 saves out of the bullpen to go along with a 2.96 ERA in 21 relief appearances.
FAU went 37-24 in 2010 and clinched the top seed in the Sun Belt Conference in addition to qualifying for the Gainesville Regional.
During regional play, the Owls advanced to the championship game and eliminated Bethune-Cookman and two-time national champion Oregon State from postseason play.
Eight position player starters and two members of the starting rotation return for head coach John McCormack this season including preseason All-American OF/RHP Andy Mee.
The FAU baseball team will open the 2011 season on Friday, February 18 at home against Hofstra at 6:30 p.m. at the FAU Baseball Stadium in Boca Raton.
