BOCA RATON, FL - A 14 point, eight rebound performance from senior forward Brett Royster was not enough to help the Florida Atlantic men's basketball team as they lost to Western Kentucky 57-53 on Saturday night.
The Owls (16-7, 8-1 Sun Belt) started out sluggish, falling behind by nine early in the first half. Western Kentucky (9-11, 4-4) pushed the lead to as many as 15 points and were up by a dozen, 33-21 at the half.
FAU rallied to within two points twice in the second half, and were even within one at the 2:47 mark, but could never make the basket to take the lead. The loss is the first for the Owls since a 71-62 loss to DePaul on December 22.
The eight game winning streak tied the school record and was the longest for the Owls since joining Division I in the 1994-95 season.
FAU will travel to North Texas on Thursday to take on the Mean Green. The game is scheduled to start at 8 p.m. eastern, 30 minutes following the women's game that starts at 6 p.m. eastern. Live audio of the game will be available at www.fausports.com.
