DENTON, TX - Head Coach Mike Jarvis got his 400th career win in a 72-55 victory over North Texas on Thursday night.
The Owls (17-7, 9-1 Sun Belt) controlled the game almost from the start with 11 players seeing action in the first half and 10 players scoring. 10 points from Greg Gantt and seven each from Raymond Taylor and Dennis Mavin gave FAU a 37-27 halftime lead.
The lead grew to as large as 15 points in the second half before North Texas (16-7, 5-5 Sun Belt) went on a run to cut the lead to three, 58-55, with 4:27 left in the game.
FAU scored the game's final 14 points and held the Sun Belt highest scoring offense to 20 points below their season average. Taylor led the Owls with 17 points on the night. The win gave head coach Mike Jarvis his 400th career victory and snapped the nation's 6th longest home winning streak. It was UNT's first home loss since January 16, 2010.
The Owls return home to host archrival FIU on Saturday in the annual "Bury the Burrow in Red" game. Tip-off is set for 8 p.m. with doors opening at 6:30 p.m. The game will be televised as part of the Sun Belt Network package and live audio of the game will be available on www.fausports.com.
