BOCA RATON, FL (January 22, 2011) - UALR scored 37 second-half points and upended FAU 68-54 on the women's basketball hardwood at the FAU Arena on Saturday afternoon.
The Owls (4-14, 1-6) cut a double-digit lead to eight points with a Lyrell Barfield three-point field goal just before halftime. Barfield finished the game with six points but the leading scorer for FAU was shutout in the second half.
The Trojans (13-5, 7-0) surged out of the locker room in the second period and led by as many as 21 points before FAU made a late run to make the final margin 14.
Preseason Sun Belt Player of the Year Chastity Reed led all scorers with 19 points on 7-of-21 shooting. Marian Kursh had one of her strongest games of the season in the post position, notching a double-double with 16 points and 10 boards. Hannah Fohne came off the bench for UALR and added 10 points, all in the second half.
Breana Turner continued her strong offensive season by adding 12 points to go along with five boards. Takia Brooks continued to run the point guard duties effectively as the freshman notched a game-high five assists.
The Owls continue their three-game home stand on Wednesday with a matchup against Middle Tennessee State. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the FAU Arena.
