Florida Atlantic Head Coach Howard Schnellenberger
"I was very impressed with the North Texas team that we played tonight and I want to congratulate them on making more plays than we did. They rallied their team together in a singular fashion tonight. Certainly we are disappointed in how inept we were on both offense and defense. I am proud in our team to battle back to almost get the win out of it."
#12 Quarterback Jeff Van Camp
On Lester Jean's reviewed catch:
"I didn't see Lester go out of bounce on the pass play. I didn't get a good look at it but it is up the refs to make that call."
On North Texas' Defense:
"They played their butts off and they are a good defense. They played good against Clemson and we knew that they were good. You have to give it to them. They played hard. It is a game that we should have won and we know that but it is the third game of the season and a lot more of the season to play."
On Offensive's Play in Second Half:
"I thought we had the momentum after the touchdown with Rob but the interception halted that momentum. It was a bad throw on my part. We have got to execute better as an offense. Seventeen points isn't going to cut it."
North Texas
James Hamilton
On victory:
"It feels great to come out 1-0 in conference. We did what was successful and we ran the ball. We needed to grow and we did that today."
"It's about having a want to. We just had to win this game. There was nothing else about it we weren't going home without the win."
"I'm a hard worker. I made this team by being a hard worker and that is what we wanted to pride ourselves on and that is what running the ball is all about, hard work."
On rushing attack:
"It was the main focus because. They allow 285 yards per game and we wanted to take advantage of it and we did."
Head Coach Todd Dodge
On victory:
"The things that have happened to us this year with the injuries is nothing we can control. Our players did a great job overcoming adversity and the coaching staff did a tremendous job of preparing our players.
"Our players focused in on what we have and they expected to win tonight. We got into one of those situations where we've come up short in the past but we finished the ballgame against a very good team in our conference."
Turnaround from last week:
"When you're backed up against the wall and you still have a lot of belief in accomplishing what you want to get done during the offseason we had to come out and get this win. It was a must. At some point we had to get a win to get our season rolling. Now it's up to us to take this momentum and go with it. This staff and this team is going to enjoy this on the flight home then we are going to get back to work and go after Lafayette."
Defense at the end of the game:
"I bet we were in that situation three times last year and we came away on the short end of the stick all three times. Our players had confidence in their eyes they believed in one another and we got the thing done."
On rushing attack:
"James Hamilton came up huge for us tonight."
"We wanted to win first down, we did it because we won first down, we were well over 55% on gaining four yards or more on first down.
On overall offense:
"The combination of James, Riley and Lance we had over 250 yards rushing and Mike did a great job being patient throughout the game and defensively after the first drive of the game we really played well. They got some stuff in the fourth quarter but overall we shut down a very explosive offense to 17 points. That's not the norm for Florida Atlantic."
