BOCA RATON, FL - Freshman RHP R.J. Alvarez continued his strong 2010 season with a stellar performance in Wednesday night's Cape Cod League All-Star Game held at Fenway Park.
The Royal Palm Beach native was handed a 5-0 lead in the eighth inning and did not disappoint, hurling a scoreless and hitless frame to go along with two strikeouts.
Alvarez's squad, the West All-Stars, went on to win the game 5-0.
The former Cardinal Newman standout has also pitched effectively in the Cape this season, posting a 2-2 record with a 0.87 ERA in 13 appearances for the Bourne Braves.
Alvarez has also recorded 26 strikeouts and has allowed only eight walks and 12 hits in 20.2 innings pitched this summer.
Earlier this year, Alvarez burst onto the scene as a freshman for FAU going 3-1 with a 5.10 ERA in 16 appearances (11 starts) to go along with 49 strikeouts in 60.0 innings.
With the departure of starting pitcher Mike Gipson to the professional ranks, the rising sophomore will factor into FAU's starting rotation next season as the Owls will try and defend their 2010 Sun Belt title.
