BOCA RATON, FL (June 17, 2010) - The individual accolades continue to pile up for Florida Atlantic University's Dan Scheffler and Andy Mee, as the two first-year Owls earned first-team South Central All-Region honors this week.
The two standouts on this year's baseball team also were named to the first team All-Sun Belt in May, and both players are expected back for their senior seasons in 2011.
Mee was named as the top reliever and the third best outfielder on the all-region team for his banner year in 2010. On the mound, the Palm Beach Gardens native went 1-2 with a 2.96 ERA and a Sun Belt Conference-leading 11 saves.
At the plate, Mee led the Owls with a .378 batting average to go along with eight home runs and 55 RBI. The right fielder had several breakout games, including hitting for the cycle back on March 23 against Cornell University and going 5-for-5 with the game-winning home run and the save in a May 9 series-clinching victory against the University of South Alabama, which secured first place in the conference.
Scheffler earned the top spot at the first base position where he started all 61 games for FAU this season. The junior college transfer from Palm Beach State College hit .371 with a team-leading 15 home runs and 65 RBI.
The Owls wrapped up their season earlier this month at the NCAA Regional in Gainesville. After eliminating Bethune-Cookman University and Oregon State University in back-to-back games, the Owls fell to the University of Florida in the championship game. T
he regional was the ninth in FAU history and the first under second-year head coach John McCormack.
