BOCA RATON, FL - A pair of strong hitting performances propelled the Florida Atlantic softball team to a doubleheader sweep over Middle Tennessee on Saturday night.
Saturday's first game was a scoreless tie in the bottom of the fifth and FAU (25-23, 10-9 Sun Belt) had runners on second and third when a Blue Raider fielding error allowed Brittany Walker to score the first run of the game. The Owls added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth on a Joshlyn Martinez groundout that drove in Kimberly Petrovich. Kathryn Stauffer pitched six scoreless innings for her eighth win of the year. Rose Gressley pitched the seventh for her second save of the season.
FAU got to an early lead in the second game, scoring two runs in the first inning. The first came on when Amber Barton scored on an RBI single by Gressley. Ambar Jones scored on a wild pitch for the second run. Taylor Fawbush pitched a three-hit shutout for her ninth win of the season. The Blue Raiders (19-27, 5-16 Sun Belt) managed only seven hits in the two games.
The Owls will look to complete the series sweep on Sunday. Sunday's game will start at noon and live stats of the game will be available at fausports.com.
