Women's Tennis Sets Building Blocks for Future

The Florida Atlantic University women's tennis team has placed a solid foundation for the future after a successful 2010 spring season with a roster full of talented sophomores and freshmen.
"We had some great wins this year and a competitive schedule," said Marcy Hora-Cava, FAU's women's tennis head coach. "I believe that our team will continue to improve next season."
The Owls won nine matches this spring, a two-win improvement from last year. Dual-match victories were recorded against Sun Belt Conference opponents University of Lafayette and Middle Tennessee State University. And, the team did all of this with just one senior.
Sophomore Erika Mrazkova was one of three players to record double-digit match victories in singles action. This performance came after a 2009 season in which no FAU player captured more than eight victories. Mrazkova posted winning records at both No. 4 and No. 5 singles positions, and she secured the deciding victory in the team's 4-3 win over MTSU.
Freshman Natasha Basma made a smooth transition to the collegiate game with 10 match victories. The Fort Lauderdale native was 5-1 at No. 3 singles and undefeated in four matches in the No. 5 position.
Sophomore Cassie Bergeson also won 10 singles matches and recorded the most total victories on the team with 17 wins between singles and doubles. She teamed with fellow sophomore Justine Humair to win seven matches at No. 1 doubles.
Humair recorded eight of her nine wins at the No. 1 position to lead the Owls' singles lineup. Junior Virginia Augustin had an 8-5 record and sophomore Dominique Wimmer went 7-7 this season, including a perfect 4-0 mark at No. 5 singles.
Freshman Natasha Phillips emerged in the lineup late in the season to post a 3-3 record.
The Owls will lose senior Natalia Totevska to graduation this spring. She won seven matches this season to end her career with 29 singles victories and 18 doubles wins.
