BOCA RATON, FL - The Florida Atlantic softball team will host Middle Tennessee State in a series that will go a long way towards determining seeding for the upcoming Sun Belt Tournament.
The Owls (23-23, 8-9 Sun Belt) return to Boca Raton for the first time since splitting a doubleheader with Troy on April 10. FAU went on 2-4 on their six game road trip since that game, losing a single game to FIU and getting swept by Louisiana-Lafayette before taking a doubleheader from ULM. FAU enters the series tied for fifth place in the Sun Belt standings and are playing well headed into the final stages of the regular season.
MTSU (19-23, 5-13) are tied with Western Kentucky for eighth place in the conference. The Blue Raiders are led by senior Corrie Abel who is hitting .351 on the season. MTSU has won its last four games in a row, allowing only six runs in that time. Senior Lindsey Vander Lugt has been an ace in the circle, winning all but two of MTSU's victories this season. Vander Lugt was the winning pitcher in both of the Blue Raiders' wins over the Owls in last season's series.
Saturday's doubleheader begins at 6 p.m., with Sunday's single game starting at noon. Live stats of all three games will be available at fausports.com.
