Softball Grabs Two on Day Two of Miken Classic

BOCA RATOn, FL - Florida Atlantic University's softball team captured two games on Saturday to improve to 9-9 on the season and will play Connecticut on Sunday to round out three-day tourney.
FAU began Saturday's work day as the fourth game of the day, a day that saw Connecticut, Florida State, Miami (OH), Eastern Michigan, Florida A&M, Michigan State and the Owls take to the diamond.
FAU's first game versus Miami (OH) moved into extra innings with the two teams tied at two. The two teams moved into the international tie breaker rules with visiting Miami scoring in the top half of the frame. FAU responded with a score and then cheered as freshman Kirstin Austin hit a triple to right-center to score pinch runner Hailey Broyles for the game winning run. Freshman Taylor Fawbush pitched the eight-inning game and allowed two of Miami's three runs. Fawbush walked two and struck out four. Blair Bodenmiller hit her second homerun of the season.
Game two and the evenings nightcap versus Florida A&M saw senior Amber Barton take to the circle for the Owls. Barton took command of the game with 12 strikeouts for the 3-2 win. Barton moved to 2-2 on the season. Both Kerri Croney and Bodenmiller were 2-for-4 on the night.
FAU will play the fifth game of the day Sunday when the Owls face Connecticut, scheduled for 5 p.m.
