Track Wins Three Event Titles at FAU/FIU Invitational

BOCA RATON, FL - The Florida Atlantic track team claimed three event titles at the FAU/FIU Invitational in Miramar, FL over the weekend. FAU co-hosted the meet with FIU at Ansin Sports Complex
Ashani Roberts won the triple jump, leaping a distance 40 feet, 10 and a quarter inches. Charlene Luxama claimed the 1,500 meter title in a time of 4:56.23. The 4x400 meter relay team had the last win of the meet for FAU with the team of Toyria Mattear, Devin Robinson, Patricia Gumbs and Sharlene Luxama crossed the finish line in a time of 3:56.80.
"It was a very successful opening to the outdoor season and a good test run for a facility that may one day host a Sun Belt Conference, said Alex Smolka, FAU's head track coach."
The Owls had 12 additional top-5 finishes at the competition, highlighted by Annalisa Myers' runner-up finish in the high jump and Jennifer Holly and Brooke Guy finishing 2nd and 3rd respectively in the pole vault.
The track team returns to action on March 19 and 20 when they participate in the Hurricane Invitational, hosted by the University of Miami.
