BOCA RATON, FL - A 10-0 first half run helped propel the Florida Atlantic men's basketball team to a 63-59 win over Hofstra on Saturday night.
The run began with the Owls (6-4) trailing 26-21 with 5:30 remaining. Alex Tucker hit a jumper, followed by back-to-back slam dunk putbacks by Kore White and Brett Royster. Greg Gantt hit a jumper of his own, and Royster capped the run with a lay-in off of a White assist to put FAU 31-26 with 2:39 left.
After a Hofstra lay-in, FAU scored eight of the final 10 points of the half, putting the scoring streak at 18-4 and giving the Owls a 39-30 halftime lead.
The Pride's Charles Jenkins began the second half on fire, scoring 13 of Hofstra's first 15 points. Hofstra pulled within one with 5:23 on the clock, before Greg Gantt put hit a three-pointer just before the shot clock expired to put the Owls ahead 58-54. The lead was down to a single point again, but this time Raymond Taylor hit a triple to put FAU 61-57 with less than two minutes to go.
The two teams exchanged free throws for the final score. The win is the Owls' third in a row and first in six meeting against Hofstra.
FAU will travel to Albany, NY to take on Siena. The game will be available on Time Warner College Sports in New York State.
