BOCA RATON, FL - The Florida Atlantic University women's basketball team has announced the signing of Joanna Harden to a National Letter of Intent.
"I'm so excited to announce that Joanna Harden is a Lady Owl," said Chancellor Dugan, FAU women's basketball head coach. "We have waited a long time for this day and we are looking forward to her playing at FAU for three seasons."
Harden originally signed with FAU during the 2008-09 season, the same recruiting class that brought current sophomore Kalyn Dinkins to FAU.
The scoring guard only appeared in three games at Northwest Florida State College last season due to an injury and did not use a year of eligibility. Harden will have three years of eligibility remaining when she transfers to FAU as a redshirt sophomore this summer.
"Joanna is a very talented guard who can play the one or two, her size and length give her the ability to guard bigger players," Dugan said. "We are very happy that Joanna is coming back to South Florida."
After graduating from Ely High School in Pompano Beach, Harden decided to go the junior college route and is about to begin her first full season at Northwest Florida State College in Niceville.
At Ely High School, the four-year letter winner averaged 23.5 points, eight rebounds, six assists and four steals per game as a junior and helped lead her club to a state final four and two undefeated district championships during her career.
Harden was a first-team All-Broward County selection and was listed on the "Fab Five" team by the Sun Sentinel her senior season.
The Owls continue the 2010-11 season on Friday, November 19 when they continue their Jacksonville road trip and take on the University of North Florida. Tip-off against the Ospreys is set for 7 p.m. with live audio of the game available on www.fausports.com.
